The COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition is a group of electronic health record (EHR) companies, non-profits, analytics companies, healthcare organizations, and academic institutions that contributes knowledge to help answer public health questions related to COVID-19. This group has defined common data elements and study designs that allow the Coalition members to independently replicate studies with each of their patient populations in a way that no member working alone could produce.

The first collaborative study looked at the impact of famotidine treatment on the risk of death in admitted COVID-19 positive patients. Each data partner performed an identical independent analysis on their own aggregated dataset. EHRN examined data from 46 organizations across 21 states. The final conclusion from each data source was the same: rapid famotidine treatment does not reduce the risk of death among admitted COVID-19 patients, even when adjusting for age, sex, and comorbidities.

This work is one of the largest COVID-19 meta-analyses published online to date and represents a historic collaboration between EHR and analytics vendors. You can read the complete study on the COVID-19 Healthcare Coalition’s website.
